Teaser Trailer For Our Thriller Opening

After researching different horror trailers we thought it would be a good idea to market our own opening. By doing so we used iMovie and selected interesting short clips from our original opening and put them together to make a short teaser trailer.

During the process of making our opening to a thriller we used a wide range of technology.

Blogger:

We used Blogger as it was a good site for us to use as a blog. The whole reason for this is because it allowed us to post pictures and videos as well as wire ups of what we have been doing during the time of filming. By using blogger from the start it has allowed us to see how much has changed from the ideas that we first put together. We were able to use blogger at school and at home, we could also use it on iPhones and Android phones because there is an app that allows us to post from where ever we want.

Social Network Sites:

We used sites such as twitter and Instagram to allow the people that follow them accounts to see pictures and videos of what our video is looking like and then at the end to watch the full clip. The two sites were away for us to promote our thriller as it is free advertisement, this also gets people interested in watching our film. YouTube and Vine:

We used these two apps and websites because they are easy websites to upload videos on to. This helped us because Vine is 6 second videos and we could see if people liked bits of our film before we actually put it in to the final cut. We used YouTube to upload takes that we didn’t need in our film, as we thought this was a good way to get clips to the target audience.

Microsoft Publisher and PowerPoint:

We used Microsoft Publisher and PowerPoint a lot while making our movie, as they are easy to use and while we had to make a poster we thought Publisher was the easiest ne to use. We also used these two because it was a good way for us to get our film out to the target audience.

Apple iPhone and Sony Camera:

We used Apple iPhone to film part of our film as we thought it would be good idea to use different types of cameras to see what quality camera would suit our thriller better. In the end we used the Sony handheld camera as the quality of the camera made the thriller look better.

Pinnacle:

We used pinnacle to edit and put the clips that we wanted to use together to create a rough copies. Once feedback group watched the video we added more stuff and changed some stuff for the final cut of our video, this was easy on pinnacle as we created our own folder to put our clips in.

 This is the final storyboard that we done for our thriller, it involves the setting of each shot, the characters that were involved and the different scenes throughout the thriller.

Marking Others Work

Marking "Remember me?"

First of all, at the very start of the thriller there is a sentence that states "What you had thought you had left behind is now catching up with you". The sentences English is bad and makes the audience have to read it over again in order to understand what it means. The font is quite childish and has no real connection to what would be used in the opening of a thriller, it seems unprofessional. When the text fades, we go to a shot of a house, the camera is shaking during this shot which doesn't look good. This could've been avoided by using a tripod in order to keep the camera still. "starring Sarah Walker" then appears when a different character is in the shot. This has a negative effect as the audience doesn't know which character Sarah is playing, this makes it harder for the audience to build a connection with that character. The costume of Chris James is way too casual for a villain, it doesn't match the character. When the villain is walking, there is a shot from above him looking down, this is quite uncommon and is unique. When the Phone receives a text, the writing is blurry and unclear. This makes it awkward for the audience to see what it is that has been sent. The flashback to 2003 is quite good. They have edited the colour to make the tape seem old, also the fact they have wrote "2003" at the bottom of every flash back intrigues the audience and makes them wonder what it is that happened that year. When the girl walks down the stairs, there is a blue light on the wooden railing, however when the camera angle changes, the lighting changes to normal light. When the girl then walks through into the next room, the villain is in a very visible position, however she doesn't notice him. This is quite unrealistic. After that, the camera moves from the bottom to the top of the villains body, then goes back down. When the camera reaches his face, a new clip is taken, however either the character or camera is not in the exact same position causing the camera to look like it jolts slightly. This looks unprofessional. I also thought that the music used in the thriller did not match what was happening in it. For example, when the shot changed from the girl reading a newspaper to the villain standing with a hammer, the music did not change in the slightest. This meant that there was no suspense or tension built. Finally, they used a lot of different camera angles, this is a good thing but most were quite close shots. This meant that it was hard for the audience to get a feel of the setting they were using.

We started the day by going to charlottes house with her sister to do make-up and sort out any props we needed. We had already scouted for the perfect location for filming the first forest scene. When we arrived, it was raining slightly however this wasnt a disadvantage as when we edit the scenes, it will give a good affect. We started filming the first shot from various different angles, this allowed us to have a variety to choose from so we could get the best shot. Although it was freezing cold and now pouring with rain our charcters still percivered with the repetative shots we had to do. the hardest shot we found to do was the 360 pan of the forest to esablish the location straight away to our audience, the tripod we used was very stiff to turn and was a struggle not to judder the camera, after trying a few times with this shot, we decided to use a shot on tom iphone at the start of our film to put with the titles, of a portrait angle of the woods as we were driving along,out the window. We also found it hard to producea high angle shot, Tom tried to climb some trees to get a higher shot of claudia laying on the floor in her dream however because of the weather conditions it was unsafe and slippery for him to do so. The footage we ended up with for this day was deffinetly good to use for the final cut of the film as we filmed form lots of different angles for a good dream seqence. however as we ran out of time, because the park was closing and we were all very cold and wet, we had to skip a bit of the dream sequence for another rainy day at the same time so the lighting would be at a good continutity.

This is a photo we took when we was scouting for locations in Warley woods. We have used a person in the photo so we can see what it looks like to peoples eyes and views. We also had the person in it as this was an idea we had at first for the use of our poster.

Preliminary Exercise

Preliminary exercise.

This was a continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and the exchanging a few lines of dialogue. Our task demonstrated match on action, shot reverse shot, and 180 degree rule. We filmed separate videos of the prelim we edited the clips with the app 'VidEditorFree'. We done this Easily as we shot the clips on an iPhone. Using this technology helped us to make a successful prelim. 

Our Prelimary Exercise

Our Prelimary Exercise was to get some different shots of someone walking into a class room and talking to another person this took us about 15 minutes to film and edit it together which isn't that long.

 

 

Pitch

This is the ideas that we come up, to help us think of the thriller. our pitch is in chronological order of our opening title sequence here is a video of us expaling out pitch to you. This helped us when filming out pitch because it allowed us to talk less as we had it in breif detail on the board so we just had to talk about the actors that we were going to use and also talk about the costumes and props that were being used through out the film.
